Evaluation rubric for student participation in online group assignments

Criteria for Evaluation:

  • Communication: Student communicates effectively with the group using online communication tools, such as chat, email, or video conferencing.

  • Contribution: Student contributes to the group project in a meaningful way and completes assigned tasks on time using online collaboration tools, such as shared documents or project management software.

  • Cooperation: Student works well with others and demonstrates a positive attitude towards group work, even in an online environment.

  • Reliability: Student consistently participates in online discussions and meets deadlines for online assignments.

  • Digital Literacy: Student demonstrates proficiency in using online tools and platforms for communication and collaboration.

Scoring:

Each criterion can be scored on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest score:

  • Communication:
    1 – Rarely communicates with the group using online tools
    2 – Occasionally communicates with the group using online tools
    3 – Usually communicates with the group using online tools
    4 – Frequently communicates with the group using online tools
    5 – Consistently communicates with the group using online tools in a clear and effective manner

  • Contribution:
    1 – Does not contribute to the group project using online collaboration tools
    2 – Makes minimal contributions to the group project using online collaboration tools
    3 – Makes contributions to the group project using online collaboration tools
    4 – Makes substantial contributions to the group project using online collaboration tools
    5 – Makes exceptional contributions to the group project using online collaboration tools

  • Cooperation:
    1 – Does not work well with others in an online environment
    2 – Occasionally works well with others in an online environment
    3 – Usually works well with others in an online environment
    4 – Frequently works well with others in an online environment
    5 – Consistently works well with others in an online environment and helps to build a positive team dynamic

  • Reliability:
    1 – Rarely participates in online discussions and misses deadlines for online assignments
    2 – Occasionally misses online discussions and deadlines for online assignments
    3 – Usually participates in online discussions and meets deadlines for online assignments
    4 – Frequently participates in online discussions and meets deadlines for online assignments
    5 – Consistently participates in online discussions and meets deadlines for online assignments

  • Digital Literacy:
    1 – Demonstrates limited proficiency in using online tools and platforms for communication and collaboration
    2 – Demonstrates basic proficiency in using online tools and platforms for communication and collaboration
    3 – Demonstrates intermediate proficiency in using online tools and platforms for communication and collaboration
    4 – Demonstrates advanced proficiency in using online tools and platforms for communication and collaboration
    5 – Demonstrates exceptional proficiency in using online tools and platforms for communication and collaboration

Total Score: The maximum possible score is 25.

Interpretation of Scores:

  • 21-25: Excellent participation
  • 16-20: Good participation
  • 11-15: Average participation
  • 6-10: Below-average participation
  • 1-5: Poor participation
